The initiative has gone beyond the European realm and includes 12 members from all over the world. As « DOI agents », the members of the consortium are entitled to grant Digital Object Identifiers to various types of digital resources, thus rendering them citable and more easily accessible. With this mission, DataCite will closely collaborate with data producing centers and scientific publishers.
To assist such collaborations and to steer and streamline these endeavours, the consortium has set up several working groups (metadata, dynamic objects, preservation, new skills, etc.)
